Just released Org2Blog v1.1.13 with almost no user-facing changes but primarily maintenance and cleanup.
That said you might care about:
- Create Entries without requiring an Internet connection to load Categories, Tags, and Pages. Previously it would error out preventing you from creating the Entry on your computer.
- WordPress 6 broke View Entry. Fixed.
- Although you were unlikely to have used
org2blog-buffer-post-or-page-view
ororg2blog-subtree-post-or-page-view
, you can’t anymore. See their function for details. Guessing you were unlikely since the break was never reported. Addendum: It was only broken for Page previews which are probably rarely used: makes sense. - Easier to check for compilation errors since long docstrings now get ignored.
Hello,
I’m slowly catching the train…thank you for your latest post @Irreal – I could adopt DeltaWalker. 😉
Otoh, I’m considering whether to use just Hugo+org-mode or to jump to org2blog. Main consideration is how much work is keeping WP uptodate/secure?
I’m sure that as the author of org2blog package, you have plenty of experience…
Sincerely,
Gour
Hi Gour! I hope you enjoy DeltaWalker. It is a hidden gem (and I’ve tried everything else!).
When choosing a blogging solution, I’d start with your mission—the outcome you value most.
For example, it could be ease of use, a specific programming language, a specific blog platform, or even a specific philosophy. One of my buddies, for example, is a Python person, so there was no question: he went with `ox-hugo.’
On the other hand, my vision is freedom of expression and speech, which means choosing a platform that gets as many people blogging as quickly as possible, whether they are master programmers or non-technical users, with the best support and best plugins and documentation. So, I went with WordPress.
Only after that did I choose Org2Blog as one among many great options (https://github.com/org2blog/org2blog/tree/master?tab=readme-ov-file#similar-applications) because it adheres to my vision (https://github.com/org2blog/org2blog?tab=readme-ov-file#why-we-do-this).
As you said, your two primary concerns are keeping WordPress up-to-date and secure. I totally understand; they are mine, too. Although I’m not a WordPress consultant or salesperson, I have personal experience with WordPress.com and JetPack.com and heartily recommend them. If you want to run your own server, I still recommend you use JetPack.
Hope you have a great blog experience whatever you end up with and if you use Org2Blog let me know what I can do to help and even add you to (https://github.com/org2blog/org2blog/blob/master/docs/Org2Bloggers.org) if you like! 🙂
