The Lake

Lake Michigan is beautiful without limit. There are a million places along the lakefront from which you can enjoy its beauty. Even from the same locus, it will never, ever look the same twice. For that reason, its beauty can never be captured by image, though perhaps someone more well-spoken could capture how it makes them feel, with words.

You can enjoy it by driving down to the beach and parking, by walking through the streets, or even via a nice bike-path that runs through the city.

It is our state’s greatest natural resource.

Fall 2010 Wrapup

During my Fall 2010 semester I took one class, a survey class, Applied Mathetical Analysis. It was a total blast. Sure, every topic covered had entire classes for and books written about them… but that just made it more interesting!
This semester is in my top-three favorite semesters of all time. I worked extremely hard, learned a lot, and will only have fond memories of it.

Guardians of our Society

Last Friday, a friend of mine shared with me his time, thoughts and ideas. We had a great discussion that, among other things, got to the topic of warriors and peacemakers in our society.
We talked about, generally, how those members of society, the guardians of our values and beliefs, must embody these very standards.
Today I read this article. How inspiring.

Gobo Eiffel Compiler

The Gobo Eiffel Compiler, or gec for short, is an open source command-line Eiffel compiler. The Eiffel community is already equipped with several Eiffel compilers, all supporting their own dialect despite the efforts of standardization of the Eiffel language and kernel library. So why yet another Eiffel compiler? The goal of gec is not to augment the number of incompatible Eiffel compilers but to provide both the open source community and the industry with a compiler fully compatible with ISE Eiffel and compliant with the ECMA Eiffel standard. OK, so what is the benefit of having a clone of ISE Eiffel? First gec is not a clone of ISE Eiffel. It uses different compilation techniques which make the compiler and the compiled applications perform better in some contexts or in some parts of the development cycle. Then, gec also provides an alternative to ISE Eiffel for those who invest a lot in the Eiffel technology and don’t want to be tied to a single vendor.
